November 2022 Passive Income

Image
Greetings everyone, welcome to my November 2022 passive income update. November was a busy month both in terms of passive income and life.  On the 30th, my family and I said goodbye to my aunt in Winnipeg.  She lived and enjoyed every day of her 87 years on this earth, she will be dearly missed. Dividend Increases/Announcements At the beginning of the month, Cenovus ($CVE) declared a variable dividend of 11.4 cents to be paid out in December, and Tourmaline Oil Corp. ($TOU) declared a special dividend of $2.25 per share payable this month. Eight companies that I hold also announced increases to their annual dividend of varying percentages - Tourmaline, CNRL, Arc Resources, Telus, Suncor, Alimentation Couche-Tard, RBC and Enbridge kept the business news wires busy, these increases will add a total of $381.48 in annual passive income! Buys & Sells This month I exited my position in Algonquin Power at a loss, and my position in Power Corporation up a modest 1% With these funds I purch

October 2022 Dividends

Greeting everyone, welcome to my October 2022 passive income update. Another month has come and gone, and thankfully we made it to the end of the month without seeing any snow!  This proved to be advantageous in terms of the Halloween candy collected by my boys, and the annual lesson in the dreaded dad tax! Dividend Increases One increase announced this month, Abbvie Inc. ($ABBV) announced a 5% increase to their annual dividend, this will add $28.84 USD in my RRSP account. Buys & Sells I sold 500 shares in Arc Resources ($ARX) to buy 120 shares in Tourmaline Oil Corp. ($TOU) in my TFSA, this will result in a decline of income by $132, but with special dividends announced through 2023 from Tourmaline, this will quickly be offset by the dividend announced for this November.  I now own approximately an even amount of shares of two large natural gas producers in the country. I also exited small positions held in Nutrien ($NTR) and CP Rail ($CP) with reasonable profits and used those fu

September 2022 Dividends

Greetings everyone, welcome to my September 2022 passive income update. I can't believe its already the middle of October, the past 6 weeks have really flown by, with the boys back to school, I finally found some time to sit down and write (night shift perk!)  Only one purchase was made in September outside of reinvested dividends, I purchased 6 shares of $SCHD ETF.  This purchase should add approximately $15 USD to by annual dividend income. Towards the end of the month, two companies announced dividend increases, first Fortis $FTS announced they were increasing their dividend by 6% to $2.26 annually, adding $18.96 in annual income.  The same day, Starbucks $SBUX announced an 8.2% increase to their dividend, bringing it up to $2.12 per year.  This adds a staggering $0.80 USD to my annual income.  One brick at a time! In September, I received dividends from 13 different companies.  If the dripped shares seem to be in excess of the dividend, it is because I purchased extra shares to

August 2022 Dividends

Greetings everyone, welcome to my August 2022 passive income update. Another quiet month investing wise, outside of purchasing shares with funds received from dividends, I only managed to add 2 shares of Google and 5 shares of Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF.  The purchase of $SCHD will add around $14.08 USD inside my RRSP annually.  I spent a good portion of August away from home, mostly down visiting my parents, helping them with yard work and any other odd jobs that needed attention.  I also managed to sneak a day trip in to the States, hadn't been able to do that for a couple years.  Besides missing my local crossing time on the way back and extending the trip by 2.5 hours through a 24 hour port, crossing the border was painless!  I didn't totally disconnect from the markets, but definitely wasn't as active as I am when I'm home.  Early on in August, Canadian Natural Resources ($CNQ) announced that they would be paying out a $1.50 special dividend paid out at month

July 2022 Dividends

Greetings everyone, welcome to my July 2022 passive income update. July was a pretty quiet month investing wise, only a couple small purchases were made, and of course reinvestment of dividends!  Camping season got under way July 1st as my family and I got up to the lake for our annual retreat to peace and quiet (my wife's happy place!)  Work commitments pulled me away for my shift throughout the 3 weeks, but I got to spend a handful of days in the water with my boys, and managed to avoid any major sunburns.  It was nice to be able to sit around a campfire this year, fire bans and extreme heat last summer sure put a damper on the relaxing at night part of camp life. Like I stated earlier, I didn't buy much this month, I picked up 10 shares of Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF, and 5 shares of Canadian Natural Resources, all inside my RRSP.  These purchases will add $43.15 to my passive annual dividend income.  I also started a position in Google by picking up 2 shares in my RRSP, n

June 2022 Dividends

Greetings everyone, welcome to my June 2022 passive income update. What a rollercoaster this past month has been.  A handful of my stocks saw all time highs, and as I write some have experienced 30%+ drops from those highs, investing is not for the feint of heart! Buys & Sells If the drip amounts below don't add up for some shares it is because I used the spare change in my accounts to utilize all the funds I have received over the years from dividends thanks to no fee trading through Wealthsimple. In my RESP I started a position in Alimentation Couche-Tard, picking up 13 shares and adding $5.72 in annual income. In my RRSP I added 15 shares of Bell Media and 20 shares of Fortis to my existing positions, delivering $55.20 and $42.80 in forward income respectively. Also in my RRSP, I started purchasing US companies also through Wealthsimple, only paying a small conversion fee and no trade fees.  I purchased 5 shares each of Starbucks and Schwab US Dividend Equity ETF, adding $10

May 2022 Dividends

Greetings everyone, welcome to my May 2022 passive income update. Pretty quiet month activity wise, it was turnaround season for my plant, which kept me busy for a 3 week stretch, so I just let the dividends roll in and I simply added shares via Drip whenever possible. The transfer of my RRSP account at RBC to Wealthsimple was completed this month.  Wealthsimple separates CAD and US stocks inside the RRSP, so moving forward, any dividends received in the US portion will be recorded in CAD at 1:1, RBC used to convert the dividend automatically to CAD for me, so for sake of simplicity I'll just report as CAD funds. Buys & Sells Purchased 30 shares of Tourmaline Oil Corp, resulting in $24 of additional annual income.  Dividend Increases I think this was a record for me, 6 companies announced increases to their dividends this month: These increases add $161.26 in annual dividend income across my TFSA and RRSP accounts, not bad! Income May saw my largest ever month of income and fi
